Yesterday we welcomed special guests at the Wagner House — Prince Michael of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach and his wife, Princess Dagmar.
One of the ancestors of Prince Michael was Grand Duchess Maria Pawlowna of Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach, who came to Weimar after marrying Prince Carl Friedrich. In 1804 the young married couple took a journey from St. Petersburg to Weimar. They spent the 1st and 2nd October 1804 in Riga, where they were warmly welcomed. To mark this occasion, a performance and ball took place at the Riga City Theatre, now known as the Wagner House. More than 200 years later, it is a great honour to welcome Prince Michael to the very same building to follow the footsteps of his family. Maria Pawlowna supported artists and musicians, especially Franz Liszt (who performed at the Riga City Theatre in 1842). Today, the Maria Pawlowna Society (Maria-Pawlowna-Gesellschaft) continues to spread her name and ideas, and we look forward to possible future projects we can work on together.

Gestern durften wir besondere Gäste im Wagner-Haus begrüßen — Prinz Michael von Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach und seine Frau, Prinzessin Dagmar.
Eine der Vorfahren des Prinz Michael war die Großherzogin Maria Pawlowna von Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach, die nach der Heirat mit Prinz Carl Friedrich nach Weimar kam. 1804 unternahm das junge Ehepaar eine Reise von St. Petersburg nach Weimar. Sie verbrachten den 1. und 2. Oktober 1804 in Riga, wo sie herzlich empfangen wurden. Zu diesem Anlass fand eine Aufführung und ein Ball im Stadttheater Riga statt, im heutigen Wagner-Haus. Mehr als 200 Jahre später ist es eine große Ehre, Prinz Michael im selben Gebäude begrüßen zu dürfen, um in die Fußstapfen seiner Familie zu treten. Maria Pawlowna unterstützte Künstler und Musiker, insbesondere Franz Liszt (der 1842 am Stadttheater Riga auftrat). Heute würdigt die Maria-Pawlowna-Gesellschaft weiter ihren Namen und ihre Ideen.
